Automatic Restart, Blue Screen

The Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) is a general name for critical error messages in the Windows operating systems.

BSoD appears when a fatal error occurs in the kernel or driver core. After it occurs, the system creates entries in the system log with the error parameters. If memory dump recording (memory dump is the contents of the working memory of a process, kernel, or the entire operating system at a particular moment) is enabled in the operating system settings, the path to the file with the *.dmp extension will be specified in the system log. It is necessary to determine the cause of the error.

By default, dump files are stored in the Windows folder on the system disk partition (for example, C:\Windows\minidump\, where C: is the system disk partition) and have the *.dmp extension.

To have the ability to log the error message, it is necessary to disable automatic system restart.

Disabling automatic system restart in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11

  1. Right-click the This PC shortcut and select Properties in the context menu (in Windows 8, use the Windows + E shortcut).
  2. In the window that appeared, open the Advanced system settings (left sidebar).
  3. In the System Properties window, go to the Advanced tab.
  4. In this tab, click the Settings... button in the Startup and Recovery section.

  6. Click OK and reboot your PC.
  7. After performing the described actions, if a critical error occurs, the system will show a blue screen instead of automatically restarting.

When creating a ticket in Player Support, describe your issue in detail:

  • Specify when the error occurs most often.
  • Attach dump files (preferably, archived in the *.zip format).
  • Send an AIDA64 diagnostics file: it will help us deeply analyze the issue as soon as possible.
